That looks good. The UHMW I'm speaking of is actually a solid round rod. It is 1" in diameter but solid. It would replace the PVC all together.

Yea... Thats what I think I got off the bar on the bar bell set... It is one inch, and lotz thicker than PVC... and I left the 3/4 in place as it fits into the spring, slide it right over the PVC...I won't go over the spring either. She hit it last night, it did'n't shatter.
Going to get your stuff... got a couple more to make for family members....
Getting my work station together... tarp down...swing back in operation for the GDD's...
Banditscoach... DD ended up knocking off the jugs softie glued with PVC. I started over. Got rid of PVC altogether. I got a broom handle, hammered it in the spring....put the same sleeve over it, then screwed a wiffle ball to it. Working good so far... video coming soon.
Looking like I'm going to need a stronger spring too. The additional weight of the wood seems to be stretching spring some, or at least it wont bounce back, to 90 degrees like it was....

Not sure where to get a stronger spring. I still think you will be happier with the uhmw. You could screw a real ball to the top of that.
Here is the final version... She is alittle tenative from being barefoot, plus Mom is home !!!! She seen the test in garage, and agreed to 3 swings in the house...We'll get a better video clip when she goes to work.

Consider revising this pre-swing routine ....
Pre-Release of the "StringThing".... "the Kid" is scheduled to film a demo later this afternoon...The neighbor & I was hitting it last night & its a good thing I tried to work on the video first...before I wasted her time with another fix... :{((
