Kind of crappy that a kid's sport, could be ruined by adults.

I have a very long fuse. I have only "lost it" a couple of times in my life - but if any parent every flipped off my kid, I would break their finger.

It might be worth the night in jail. Amy

absdad - I know what you mean - true story, boys LL field by my house, took my son in stroller to watch the 12u game for a few minutes. Runner on 3rd, Pitcher called for a balk, run scores, pitcher's father in bleacher's goes absolutely berserk, tells blue that he is "going to fxxxx kill him", blue tells the scorer to call the police, manager of pitcher's team had to physically escort this out of control father to the parking lot. It was an absolute shame to see this type of behavior at a kids game (or any game for that matter!).

Seen very similar before. DD's team had another tournament this fall where an asst coach on the other team had to be removed by his fellow coaches for going off and screaming at the umps. SS backed into my daughter accidentally and knocked her down as she was going for 3, while 3rd baseman was fielding the ball. They awarded 3rd to my daughter. This sent their coach over the top. Everyone just sat and watched with dropped jaw as it went down, because nobody could believe what they were seeing. Some people...

Wow I guess I will tell my girls not to chant " pitchers got a boyfriend, a boyfriend" Which my jaw dropped when I heard that, thought that was kind of funny.

However every softball game I have been to all the girls are chanting. especially the one that goes " a boom chicka boom" and so forth???

Why is chanting bad, I just thought that was girls softball???

Nothing wrong with most chants. It just depends on what is said. When I was umpiring I issued a team warning because they were saying "Pitcher has a wedgie" in a 12U game

There is nothing wrong with chanting. I love it when my team does a chant...Many times I find myself singing it along with them!
The issue I had earlier was the chant was a tad violent for 10U, and it took the ump 3 warnings before the team stopped...But then the parents took it too far and started berating my pitcher, who is a 9 yo girl....

I think people tend to forget where they are, who is around, and what message they are sending their daughters...
Win at all costs? I wonder if that is what a coach of the UNM Soccer player taught..you know, the one who has been all over ESPN and You Tube for her outrageous play...
Somewhere along the way, someone forgot to teach sportsmanship.

Nothing wrong with chants, it keeps the teams energy up, supports the batter, etc.

If you pay attention, you will notice that even the WCWS teams do it!

But not derogatory. As was said before, cheer for your teammates, not against the other team.

If you notice the BYU kid is pulling the shorts of the UNM player. Not advocating her reation but BYU wasn't all in the right either.
