Trying to find some info on this. I have an ASA "B" player that was asked to guest on an "A" team that plays USSSA only. She will not be added to the ASA roster for this team only the USSSA roster. By guesting on this team does this affect her "B" status? Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing that could affect her ASA status would be to play up on an "A" ASA roster for ASA doesn't recognize anyone elses rosters or organizations

This is not how our ASA district commissioner interpreted the ASA rule. This is how the rule was defined by our district commissioner to us. BTW I support this interpretation because it takes all the gray area out of this issue.

First ASA rules say you cannot play with an "A" team after the last full weekend in April and then play "B". They do not specify an ASA "A" team. Second, if the team in question is an ASA "A" organization and if the player played for an "A" team in a tournament whatever the organization then she played for an "A" team. Period. The interpretation is that the player would be ineligible to play "B" for the rest of the calendar year.

GENERAL “B” POLICIES & PROCEDURES
1. Individual players who *participate on an “A” team after the last full weekend in April (April 25- 26, 2009) of the current season are not eligible to participate in “B” tournaments.
*NOTE: “participate” in this sentence shall be defined as uniformed and rostered attendance at an umpired game.

There is no distinction between USSSA "A" and ASA "A" teams in the rule book.

ASA gives wide lattitude to it's local commissioners to layer on extra rules. If your local ASA has that specific a rule then that applies to you, but it does not apply to any other ASA team that registers outside your local ASA.

IMU, So Cal has an entire yellow book of extra rules that apply to team classifications and elligibility.

It's kind of like your HS coach telling a player they are suspended for missing a practice. That not an NFHS rule and the player is elligible to play, but the local authority has the right to add tighter rules and enforce them.

Rule 12 covers this. ASA rules apply only to ASA tournaments. Your commissioner is out of line. Go over their head.
