DD has played for same TB team for the last 2 years. When tryouts came around for upcoming season, she wanted to explore other opportunities. She did go to one of the tryout dates for her team, but did not attend any of the other dates. The decision date for offers from that team has come and gone and we have not heard anything- not an offer nor a rejection. DD did try out for other teams in the meantime and did accept an offer just today to play for another team. Is it the appropriate thing to do to call her previous coach to let him know that she is going to another team??? The personnel from that team has not not changed much in the last 2 years and I think the coach assumed that DD would return to the team after she showed up for the one tryout date.

You don't have to, but it probably would be a nice courtesy. That way the coach will know to make an offer to someone else while others are still available.

Based on your description of the situation, it's possible the coach may already be counting on having your DD back on the team. Since there has been so little turnover, it would be appropriate to inform the former coach that DD is joining a new team and thank him for his commitment to her.
