GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) - The relentless desire for more/better gear.
During my years racing bicycles, GAS manifested itself in the longing for things like the latest Italian shifters, carbon fiber handlebars, and light-weight wheels. As a musician, GAS was an aching lust for vintage guitars, tube amps, and microphones. For my wife, her GAS includes shoes and purses from a specific maker.
Now, with softball, it's not about my own selfish desires anymore, but the GAS-fueled fires still burn plenty hot. The latest composite bats, finely-crafted gloves, and colorful rolling bags all come tumbling into focus. It's an easier sell now, however. Convincing my DW that I really needed ANOTHER guitar wasn't always a smooth road. "It's for our DD!", is harder for DW to argue with.
So...what's your latest purchase, or what is currently giving you GAS?
