Does anybody have a good way to explain to 8u girls when a situation requires a tag out vs. when "just step on the base" is the play to make. My daughter pretty much gets it...not fully, but pretty much, but I think that is from me pestering her with questions & information all the time...but I can't figure out actual "rules" to teach it to the other girls on the team. Are 8u girls too young to get it?? Even 10u can be confused by tag out vs. force out...as this story illustrates
My friend was coaching his DD 10u team & with bases loaded he thought he could safely announce "Just step on any base"...well, next pitch in the dirt gets by the catcher, runner on 3rd takes off...catcher (his daughter) picks up the ball & stands on home plate as the runner slides (safely) in. She yells, "You said just step on the base"
The look on my friend's face was classic.
Any suggestions on teaching the force play vs. tag play "rules"?
Thanks
