Strangest ending to a game?

Why didn't the fielder just follow her to the base and apply a tag. It would have forced the other coach to give up quicker.

The smartass in me would have the catcher hold the ball standing in front of the plate and see how long everyone wanted to hang out waiting for the tie.

Then it's up to the coach to give up. keep the tag on so if she leave she is out so the coach can see nothing stupid is going to occur versus a girl running back and forth who could trip,etc.

That’s basically what we were doing. It’s just that they got a little impatient.

Sorry, I didn’t realize you meant hold the tag. We discussed this afterwards. We kind of agreed that by rule, you shouldn’t kill it there. By common sense, we probably would have.

There is no stalemate rule in softball.

The other play they could have made was throw the ball to P and have her throw it over the fence prior to the runner getting to 2nd. 2 base game over.
