IMO a lot (not all) of this problem comes from players not actually thinking about doing the next thing until they've done the first thing.
They don't round the base in stride because they're not actually thinking about going to the next base until it's way, way too late.
Also nobody knows how to run anymore because nobody plays outside anymore. I hate how old that makes me sound, but I really do think there's something to it.
