Question on warm ups

Just curious

Teams warming up outside the fence during pre-game at a tournament complex (current game going on the a field behind the fence).

An umpire from a different field is walking back to the umpire tent and makes the catcher who is warming up a pitcher put on her helmet.

I imagine that is something that varies by tournament. Our rec league rules state any player warming up a pitcher must be wearing a helmet.

I have read the ASA rules a few times and cannot find anything except the C must wear a mask. It doesn’t make a distinction between the game and warming up so I would assume it only applies to what happens on the field. So I would say the rule does not exist.

It doesn’t happen in the higher leagues but if you have a player on the field warming up the P, she is the C and must wear a mask.

I would also only treat a comment like that from an umpire before the game as a suggestion; I do not think they have any authority yet.
