Positioning of 3rd baseman on throwdown from catcher

Well, I suppose it's due to my not ever having a fantastic catcher to see the greater success. In the end, it depends on the quality of catcher.

I'll keep reading: I have the 3rd base almost 1/2 way down the line and SS taking 3rd base with LF covering.
It cuts the lead quite a bit.

I agree with several of you. This is a routine that play that must be part of the arsenal. Once a game, at least, I will see a cocky lead at third and will call for the pick off. We ask for an outside pitch against a right handed batter and the immediate throw is made inside the line with the 3B taking the ball at about 54 to 55 feet with her back to the infield. LF knows its coming too so she is cheating and charging towards 3B before the pitch. Its effective for an out 60% of the time and is effective shortening their cockiness 100%. My favorite pick off though is at first with runners ahead of them, especially with two down. For some reason they think they are immune to the pickoff when there is a runner at 2B or 3B.
