Ducking them will hurt the player in the end--better not to wait while the other players surpass you.

I have always said that I can't worry about the players that don't show up - I can only coach the ones that do. The ones that don't show up will have other players surpass them anyway, at which point they will either pick up the effort or quit.

We have a girl on DD's TB team - always been the best on the team without much effort form a young age and has developed a poor attitude and work ethic as a result. The other girls are now catching up, and this one is finding it harder to stay ahead. My prediction is that she will be out of SB in 2 years because the other girls will have passed her because she never learned to work hard.
