Is the protection of the new models actually better? We don't know if the non-NOCSAE models would have passed the NOCSAE testing. Manufacturers will use this as an opportunity to sell new gear.

For my DD, she's going to hold on to her Wilson ProMotion chest protector as long as she can. The fit and comfort are un-matched.
Does a NOCSAE stamped FP chest protector exist? If so I’d be curious how well it absorbs the ball when blocking. If concerned wear the Evoshield chest protector.

Some manufacturers have NOCSAE-standard gear available for baseball. Since it's not a softball requirement yet, we probably won't see it NOCSAE-standard gear until it is.

Hmmmm?
Wonder if......
Man chest safety requirement
Would/Should be the same for
Woman chest parts safety requirement?
Cuzzz some extra things there😏

Or explained .....

Like the nether regions
Man parts have extra safety shield....
Wonder if upper woman parts would/should have extra safety shielding properties?

Adding a NOCSAE stamp doesn't necessarily mean the gear has changed design or protective capabilities. It just means the manufacturer has jumped through the hoop (and paid the fees) to get the stamp on the gear.

The higher velocities of baseball may be the most significant part of why they are mandating this for baseball, but not softball.

*~~~~No, the speed of the ball is not higher velocity in baseball~~~*
*my mistake velocity different
* reaction time at the plate equivalent.
Look at some compairison charts.
Actually softball weighs more too!

Was pointing out that perhaps womens gear may require some other safety feature.

Unless you test an old model, you will never know if the new models offer better protection. Since the old models were not tested and there was not a previous standard, there is no data.

The new standard does not mean “better” or “improved”. It only means it has been tested and meets the (new) standard.

Depends on how you are defining “a NOCSAE stamped FP chest protector” ... the NOCSAE standard was designed using a baseball.

There is no testing standard for softballs. So, no, there is not a specific softball chest protector tested to NOCSAE standards.

Can you wear a NOCSAE stamped chest protector in softball? Absolutely. Just know: if you are using a NOCSAE stamped chest protector, it was tested using baseballs, not softballs.

I had pointed out on another site (to some disagreement) that the NOCSAE standard actually could result in less safe gear. Since there was no standard to compare to before, we don’t know what level of impact absorption/dispersion previous CPs offered. Now that there is a minimum standard, exceeding it may not be worth the money spent on R&D, better materials, production, etc.

Then again, I believe minimum wage has artificially depressed wages in the long run. 🤔

actually the velocity is faster, velocity is velocity, the reaction times are fairly equivalent, because the ball is travelling less overall distance. This does NOT mean the ball slows down to the typical softball speed by the time it reaches the plate. It simply means, that because of the shorter distance to cover, the batters reaction time to a 70 mph pitch from 43 is equivalent to a 100 mph pitch from 6? feet.

velocity = distance / time

reaction time = distance / velocity

Commotio Cordis predominantly occurs in young boys so focusing on baseball and lacrosse actually makes sense. It would be like requiring athletic cups in softball.

Thats not to say women in sports aren’t discriminated against on a daily basis.
