A good coach should know from practice what to expect from his pitchers. If he knows a certain pitcher has control issues he may tell her that she's going 2 innings this game just to get her confidence up and then take baby steps until she's able to improve on her control. Unfortunately, there are some coaches out there that want results now.

If we are talking about a competitive travel team then a pitcher should be at the top of her game and know that walking batters will get her pulled. If we are referring to city and rec league then every chance should be given to a pitcher to gain confidence to move to the next level by allowing her to pitch out of tough situations. A coach can call time and run out to the mound every so often to get the pitcher refocused and go over some mechanics issues that are preventing her from hitting her spots.

As a coach i really find it challenging to coach ladies because it's always the emotions you deal with. It's good that you know your child well and know what's best for her. It's obvious that she didn't want to play because of the pressure not because she didn't like softball.

Coaching is more than teaching a skill. It's getting the team prepared physically and mentally. Coaching ladies is tough, teaching young girls is tougher but it's all worth it.

It's important that coaches update themselves on coaching ideals, beliefs, and latest practice
