When it comes to squaring up a ball, which combination of ball and bat has a wider margin of error that allows for success?

The facts...

Softball: bigger ball, smaller barrel

Baseball: bigger barrel, smaller ball.

To deep into physics for me... interested in thoughts on this and how it could play into the margin of error in mechanics.

Note: I am NOT asking which is harder to do when standing in the batters box. =)
