Runner on 2nd
Less than 2 out
Batter hits to the right side
Plays is to first. Out or safe doesn’t matter.
Runner on 2nd advances to 3rd
Rounds the base baiting 1st baseman to throw
1st base with the ball runs toward
3rd thru the circle, hands ball to pitcher who is out of the circle
Is handed ball with her back facing 3rd.
Runner still Off the base Breaks home and makes its
Blue calls play dead stating ball was in the circle.
Wrong call?? Pitcher has to have the ball in circle?
blue states pitcher was in circle
But... doesn’t runner have option
To go home? Pitcher wasn’t in circle blue I think realizes his mistake but tried to make up for it by calling pitcher in circle
Replay would have shown this

Look back rule begins when pitcher has control of the ball within the circle. At that moment base runners need to decide if they are advancing or going back to the base. If they decide to advance they do so at there own peril and can be thrown out. The look back rule is reset if the pitcher attempts a play. So based on your situation the ump kicked this rule twice. once by not realizing the pitcher was not in the circle, so the LBR does not apply, and 2 by not allowing the runner to advance as long as she did so immediately.

The play isn't dead once the ball is in the circle - the play is dead when the umpire calls time.

The pitcher having the ball in the circle DOES activate the look-back rule. Was the runner called out? or just sent back to 3B b/c the play was dead?
