Stemming from a seperate discussion a poster brought up how are girls in softball growing or not.
There was a comment that travel ball is just a sliver of the players participating in softball.

My perspective it is
far more than that!
In fact travel ball maybe
the tree trunk
growing the branches of what softball is today.

Brings this question.

How many softball players are there participating in travel ball?

Here are rough numbers from
PGF nationals
Platinum & Premier

10u 4O ( premier only div.)
12u 80 + 80
14u 80 + 80
16u 80 + 80
18u 80 + 80
= 680 teams
× 15 players per team average
( some have more or less roster)
= 10,200 players in one nationals!

These pgf numbers are only
ONE VENUE offered for nationals.
We could times these numbers by how many other national tournaments? How many other teams can be included in calculating how many players participate in travel ball?
Other nationals
Tcs
Usa
Usssa
Fasa
Afa
Nsa
+ ????

×5
=over 50,000 travel ball players!!

**PLEASE ADD
Thoughts and numbers to
this discussion!! Some teams may play in more than one venue.
Help calculate!!

To compare-
The statistics posted in another thread showed accumulative
high school numbers showing
Girls participation in high school
yearly to be in the 32,500 range.

The neat thing in high school
some of these numbers players dont play travel ball!!
Which makes the overall numbers of softball players even higher!:)

We're playing 12U USSSA A, USA ES, and PGF for travel. So, depending on success and schedules, we could be playing in more than one national tourney. I'm sure this applies to many teams.
Same teams across multiple venues in some cases, for example, the USSSA A/B state tourney for Indiana currently has an Illinois team listed as coming, and I would assume they're playing in their own too. So it's difficult to even go state by state to get accurate numbers.

Thank you for adding.
To try and stay specific..
This thread is a question regarding
How many people are playing travel ball?

Could go to all past nationals to look up how many teams participate in each one.

What other nationals are held in everyones area's/states?

Any numbers entered in those helpful!

You can add Babe Ruth and little league, The Numbers may or may not be as high as you think. Most travel ball players would be counted multiple times. At 12U my oldest played NSA, ASA (USA) and Babe Ruth. Think most teams play 2-4 of the "abc's. My youngest is in 16's Plays USSSA, USA, and NSA as well as High School.

Thankyou will add
National softball association to the list.

Actially only a small percentage would be counted twice.
For instance in calif most nationals held here have the fewest out of state teams.
Nationals out of state have the fewest calif. Teams attending.

The list that plays usa or usssa nsa or afa are not the team's playing say pgf.

.

Any other softball nationals venue's?

Need to count all of the regional nationals and U-trip World Series. Also within each sanctioning body there’s A, B, C etc. That gets a little harder to identify without a universal definition of “travel”. In MN we have a Mall of America Nationals that’s about 90% local community teams. In most areas these would be considered rec, but to their parents it’s all travel.

DD was registered with USA, USSSA, TCS and PGF simultaneously. It’s very common outside of CA.

PGF isn’t really the best of the best. As the OP stated over 10k kids played in their nationals and who knows how many more in their Regionals. They’re as watered down as any other sanction when you get to their lower teams.

Mall of America ? Interesting.
Going to try and look at nationals as a way to get team numbers.
