Sounds like a timing issue. In my experience stepping out happens when stepping too late and trying to rotate hips at the same time as stepping. My favorite drill for this is the "Ball Hit" drill. It's a tracking drill at its core. You can do front toss or off a machine. You DD will say BALL when the ball leaves your hand or the tube of the machine, when the ball is even with her front foot (assuming middle pitch ) she says HIT and starts her swing. You can use the Val Arioto separate and hold as well and instead of saying HIT she can say HEEL to initiate heel drop and the beginning of her swing. Best of luck!
