Watching a bracket game today. Game is tied with 2 outs and a runner on 3B. Batter swings and misses strike 3, but the catcher misses the ball and it goes to the screen. The runner from 3rd scores. The batter thought she fouled the ball and stayed at the plate until her coach told her to run. By this time the catcher retrieves the ball and throws out the batter at 1B.

Umpires ruling - run counts because the run scored before the 3rd out. Is this not a case of a force out no runs count?

man there are so many bad calls posted here. do any of these umpires go to clinics? Of course that is the wrong call. Runner is out before reaching 1B. Since that is the 3rd out, no run scores. Even though runner advancing to 1B is not considered a force out (in most codes), it is treated the same. No runs score if the last out of the inning is a force out or an out on the batter-runner before reaching 1B.

Umpires often wonder where parents come up with their wrong information on rules.

Its from other umps.
I don't know about that. At least in my history of playing the umps were pretty good on most of the rules including D3K. The only time it was an issue was when it was a rec league with some house rules.
