90 minutes drop dead and an elaborate plan to get an extra run on the last batter. What did you do with the other 89 1/2 minutes of play?

After the first pitch, runner should have gotten in a pickle between home and 3rd. Put pressure on the defense to execute. If she gets out then it's still a tie. If she scores, then you Win.

But yeah, drop dead should be used for games that don't count. Showcases or pool games.

That is if the catcher knows what's up. I'm suggesting create chaos especially at the younger ages.

Possibly. But then since we are talking about chaos - let the catcher chase her back. As soon as the catcher turns and starts to throw the ball back to the pitcher, take off again timing it so either it's right before the throw or while it's in flight. Now nobody is covering home (likely) and she can waltz in securing that higher seed for the 7 dollar plastic trophy playoffs.

I mean the catcher is playing for the tie, presuming they're aware they've got like 3 minutes. So just stand there.

Same thing as on a play like a fielder holding a tag on a runner. Nothing says runners have to be on a base and the ball has to be anywhere particular. Once no further action is possible or evident, TIME!
