With 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd, a ground ball is hit to SS who bobbles the ball and follows that up with a bad throw to 1st. After running through the bag, 1st base coach tells runner to go to 2nd where she is thrown out on a close play. The team on defense claims that the 2nd run does not count. Both umpires admit they didn't see it. How is a decision made in this case?

Any run that scored prior to the put out at 2B counts. It IS part of the PUs job to watch the runner coming home and determine whether the plate was touched prior to the execution of the out (not the call). If the PU wasn't watching, it is really going to satisfy only 50% of those in attendance, but it is his/her call to make and hesitation is not a friend in this circumstance

Key phrase is bolded and italicized above.....If the umpires didn't see the runner touch the plate prior to the out, the run doesn't score.
