When my dd started to catch we had similar problems. After observing her frustration, we tried a drill of the necc web site. Starting from 10' I would pitch to her at slow speed and gradually ramp up the velocity. Then I would add 5 feet and do the same with the speed/velocity and start to move back as she became more comfortable with it untill we were at full distance (35'at the time). Then I would start coming in closer and keeping the speed up as best I could to create a safe learning environment. Lots of reps and time but all worth it in the end. She is now a starting catcher for a 12u travel team and regularly catches bull pin for 14 u girls. It can be a long process but its what worked for us to improve her eyes at seeing the ball released. And as stated in earlier in this post. They have to want it. Catching in my opinion is way more specialized than pitching and you gotta put in the time on your own out side of practice. Hope this helps
