Nice video of Danielle coaching. One of the things I really liked, a kind of vindication for me, is at around the 5:30 mark she is telling her student to pitch with her back hip. This is something we work on as well. I probably tell my student five to ten times a day, you're pitching with your arm, you've got to throw that hip into this. Core torque is the key after you've learned to whip. Drive mechanics is a foundational move to load the core which in turn will turbo boost the whip.
Hey Willie, just remember, when describing - it's not the hip. It's the back leg. Watch the video from about 5:40 to 6:15. Watch very closely that she in NOT turning her back hip. She is describing dropping the back knee into the front knee which shifts the weight. And because everything is connected, the hip turns slightly as a result. If you try to tell kids about the hip, they are likely to rotate their back hip forward, which is not what is wanted.
Thanks so much for taking the time to break this down. I've watched this video many times and it's awesome to have these breakdowns of such a successful pitcher who we see very little of!
