Battle of the Bats: Softball versus Baseball
Softball and baseball share a similar look, but some key differences set the two sports apart in vital ways.

If you want to talk about difficulty of hitting, college baseball and college softball would be a better comparison. The comparison to MLB would be Olympic softball....
MLB pitchers don't peak till their mid to late 20's..no reason to believe the same wouldn't be true for fastpitch...Agreed. And the 2023 numbers between the two (at least for the top 50 - I didn't look past that) aren't nearly as stark:

Well that 97 is probably 92 20 years ago based upon how the radar worked then compared to now but there are certainly more pitchers (in particular relievers) who throw hard nowadays.Baseball pitching is so much more specialized than it was even 10-15 years ago. It's morphed to the point the old timers wouldn't recognize the game anymore. Couple that with the devaluing of the small ball game and strike out, it's not wonder averages are way down.
Is there a night that an MLB team doesn't see at least one pitcher throwing 97+ MPH?
I wonder if the radar differences could show just how hard Nolan Ryan really threw?Well that 97 is probably 92 20 years ago based upon how the radar worked then compared to now but there are certainly more pitchers (in particular relievers) who throw hard nowadays.
There was a documentary(Fastball maybe??) where they did just that..He was close to 109 with today's radar..I wonder if the radar differences could show just how hard Nolan Ryan really threw?
