ASA State championship accomplishment & disappointment

Okay this is going to be a little long...

DD's team competed at the ASA state tournament this weekend. Because of the way that the tournament was set up, all 18u bracket games were on Saturday with just the championship games (4th, 3rd, 2nd & championship) on Sunday. Our first game on Saturday was at 8:00am. We won the 1st game, then lost the next two forcing us to battle our way throught the losers bracket, winning the next 3 games in a row to advance her team to champoionship day. We ended our last game Saturday 16 hours after we showed up for warm-ups with only one 2 hour game off all day.

Sunday morning we are back at the field at 6:45am for warm-ups for our 8:00am game. After 4 innings we are stopped for a rain delay and resume play 2 hours later. We win that game and then win the next game with a run rule to advance to the championship game to play a team that not only beat us but went undefeated only playing 3 games to our 8.

We are in the bottom of the 3rd ( we won the coin toss so we were home), winning the game 7-0 with one out and runners on 1st and 2nd when the game is suspended due to rain after the losing coach made a bunch of noise with the umpires that the ball was too slick to throw (our pitcher was doing just fine). After about 2 hours of rain it because apparent that our field was going to be unplayable. Eventhough there were 5 other fields in the complex that were in good shape (they had a men's slow pitch tournament scheduled there later) the tournament was called largely due to the other teams head coach saying that they needed to head to California for their next tourney. Since our game was not considered a complete game and because we would have needed to beat them a second time, they were awarded the 1st place trophy and we were the runner's up.

Our team showed heart, class, dedication and motivation - while the outcome was a letdown these ladies were amazing playing 8.5 games in about 28 hours. DD had an outstanding weekend batting a .533 and having back to back homeruns in game 5 and calling a complete game from behind the dish in game 8, gunning out 2 runners to advance her team to the championship against an "all-star" team from our area. A lot to be proud of...
