My now mix matched catcher...I cant bring myself to spend $$ on a helmet when hers is less than a year old. Chest and legs protectors less than $45 total and both NIW. It kills me to see her not match.

My DD's catcher's gear has never matched for two reasons: 1. she is too picky about how things fit/feel to get a combo package and 2. she doesn't really like the way the matching sets look. She is currently wearing an Adidas helmet, All-star chest protector and Mizuno leg guards...
DD has decided to go without knee savers. She says she doesn't really feel any faster, but she's more comfortable without them now. Apparently, things have changed in that regard as she has grown.
The BIG development is that her blocking skills are fully switched on. Two weekends ago, she cleared the hurdle of being able to execute blocks in game situations, and it's been awesome seeing how much of a difference it makes for her team. An added bonus for her team is that the other starting catcher (also NECC-trained) is also blocking effectively. The two of them call games "block parties".
