When I was coaching and now when I coach my DGD, I taught all the infielders and outfielders to be on their toes and take baby steps creeping toward the plate as the pitch is on its way. A body in motion is easier to move than a stationary body, which will help her quickness and reaction time no matter what direction she has to move to get the ball.

I also taught the infielders to have the glove extended in front of their body, with a slight bend in the elbows with the pocket of the glove sticking up. Then when they are fielding the ball, they can bring their arms toward the body to soften the impact of ball and to get better control of it as they are getting in their throwing motion. Also with the arms extended, they can be used more efficiently for lateral movement than having them next to the body.
