IT TAKES A TEAM !
Everybody plays a role on the field.
Every position is important.
Every player IS important.
TEAM IS EVERYBODY WORKING TOGETHER

Here is one of my favorite stories.
***PLEASE SHARE YOURS!!!!!

To set the stage.....
One team holds world series titles. With the best pitcher in the nation in her era.
Other team the underdog.
With a previous years record of 8W - 35L

....If you are a coach who says
"I just need a better pitcher"...
Sit down :) this may get you thinking.

The story:
Long Beach State vs. UCLA
In the bottom of the 11th inning
UCLA Pitcher Debbie Doom
Had struck out 24 LB hitters.
She was throwing a no hitter.
(almost every hitter on our team struck out 3 times)
UCLA errors set up the scene.
1. catcher error, dropped 3rd strike. Runner safe.
2. infield grounder error, runners safe.
3. Coaches walk next batter to load bases with two outs.

Batter steps in the box for
Long Beach, a freshman, facing a senior pitcher with an era of .10 in 1984.
Hits a deep line drive to center left field.
Long Beach State beat UCLA for the first time ever!
Go DEFENSE !

My Goal = TO BEAT THE BEST !

ENJOY REACHING YOUR GOALS!

Ima guess LBS had a pretty good pitching performance that day as well.
That would be a TEAM performance because defense kept us in the game!
Pitching and defense
WORK TOGETHER! :)

Thats the point of the story ;) takes more than just a pitcher!!!!

Effort
Determination
Resiliency
GO TEAM!

Reminds me of my dds first no hitter. She struck out 18 in 6 innings. Which was a complete game in our league at the time. Not a single ball was hit fair, a couple of walks a wild pitch or 2 and 2 failed attempts to pick off a runner at third. We lost 2-1. Granted the quality of play probably wasn’t as high as your game.

In the car on the way home my dd was pissed at her performance. I say but honey you struck out every out and had a no hitter. And she said dad if I had a better game hitting we would have won. I couldn’t argue with her.

She once described a 0-0 tie in soccer as both teams lost because no one won, she was 8.

Coincidentally she lost one other no hitter as a 14 year old, against the same pitcher.
