DD has had 3 seperate occurances of "SI joint sprain" as diagnosed by sports ortho MD. Every instance had common factors of cold weather and IMHO, lack of proper warm up. Treatment has been rest, heat/cold therapy and after initial recovery, physical therapy in form of stretches and mostly strengthening exercises. I will say DD is less than committed to exercises once she is "back on track".(forgive pun) I am sure if she were more diligent we may have avoided the most current recurrence, but who knows. This only afflicts her when pitching (never has had complaints just playing field). So I do think she has some mechanical deficiency that also contributes, but it is really hard to isolate. Any other questions, PM me, I will be glad to share what I have learned.
I can write a book on SI joint issues. My DD had back pain for almost 6 months. To the point that she was almost unable to walk. We had MRI's, CT Scans checking for PARs etc... no bone issues.
We tried Physical Therapy.. Nothing worked. We thought DD was going to need to hang it up.
We tried the Chiropractor. That actually worked better than PT. But only for a day or two.
What worked?
Major and intense Core work. I would have never ever believed it.
My advice?
Have your DD sit on the floor with her legs pointed straight out. Take shoes off.
Check to see of one leg is longer than the other. Not a joke, do it. My DD's legs were off by almost 1/2"
Physical Therapist taught her an exercise using a bat to self adjust. The issue is core strength. My DD is in excellent physical condition with a full 6 pack, or so I thought. We took her to a real trainer who conducted a core strength test. Her core was 2 out of 10...
Within 5 weeks of working with her the pain is GONE! and her core strength is an 8.
We went through hell... Email me for any more details.
