thanks all!

What she is attempting to do is not stride but start her swing by moving her knee back then forward. I will try to slow it down so I can see what you guys are talking about.

So, we would be better getting wider with either a small stride or no stride and get rid of the the knee thing she is trying to accomplish.

I will also have her start holding her finish as well.

While she does have a nice swing, in the first swing her front toe moves rearward an inch or so and her front heel moves rearward 3 to 4 inches.

That's not what a negative stride is.
The young lady doesn't have a negative stride issue.
She has a no stride swing.

KRD, There is a big difference between some D-1 teams and educations. At the major colleges that we all think of, you get both. But there are smaller D1s that generally are looking for good student athletes, that we don't hear about. They generally recruit in state and we don't hear much about them.

And then, there are many D2s and D3s that wouldn't take some of the girls that are going to the smaller D1 schools. I know a few junior colleges that it is hard to make the softball team, too.

Do you have Cathy Aradi's book on recruiting? It is a great place to start.

I think you should visit some campuses and look at the size of the schools and see if they have your DD's major. Don't limit her choices. You need to do the work that high school counselors should be doing and many don't.

she works at it and wants to get better. Is she D1 absolutly not. She is a sophmore looking to get better and have success. Maybe D2 or D3???

Before I answer your questions, my recommendation would be for you to do some overhand throws into a net or wall, paying close attention to what your body does. I'm not sure if you are a male or female, but most men tend to throw overhand correctly naturally. So when we throw overhand we don't pay any attention to how our body works. Assuming a person throws overhand correctly, IMO a lot can be learned by replacing the ball with a bat and going through the overhand throw motion as if you were a 2nd basemen turning a double play (sidearm throw).

Answers:
1. IMO, the hands should load during the stride. When you stride with your front foot when throwing overhand, what do your hands do? Do they separate? When they separate does your throwing hand go backward/reach back? As it reaches back does the upper arm internally rotate some? IMO the same synchronization applies in hitting. It's a little harder to sync things up when using a no stride approach.

2. See #1. Syncing things up correctly is a big key to a powerful swing.

3. IMO, the hands should remain back at the rear armpit until the hands turn the corner. IMO a batter that drops their hands and moves their hands forward as the back elbow lowers to slot, is not as efficient as a hitter that keeps their hands back and up as the back elbow slots.

If I were you I would stand in front of a mirror like I did one year ago, and figure out how to slot your back elbow while keeping your hands up and back (same motion your throwing arm makes when you trigger your overhand throw). IMO, if you can figure out that move and teach it to your daughter it will improve her swing.

IMO when a batter's hands remain back and up while their back elbow slots, they have connection. When a batter's hands drop and move forward as the back elbow slots they have an early push and disconnection.

IMO when a batter's hands remain back and up while the hips are triggered, then they have created separation between the hips and the hands. When a batter moves their hands down and forward at the same time that the hips are triggered they will most likely have a one piece gate type swing.

I think she needs to get wider? Any other help is welcomed as well. Was dropping hands. think we have cured that. Did notice she appears to have a gap between her hands??? Where did that come from?? LOL

What I see is alot of good things.
Her swing is a no stride. She rocks her foot up and loads her hips. Nothing wrong with that.
Some people teach stride others no - stride.

Her hands and upper body load is what I call around the corner. Abit of a wrap.

Straight back - straight through will help with more direct power.


The other part is a bug squish. Using only half her hip.


Have her push off with the big toe and next toe and her knee will go towards second base verses folding underneath her body. For a right handed hitter.
Then her hips will be fully in the swing.
