Pretty cool view of Votto timing the pitch......

No offense but, if I can't see the pitcher on the left. How do I know both hitters started at the same time. Just because the 2 gifs 'seemed' sync together doesn't mean the 2 pitchers were in prefect sync in their delivered/delivering motion.

Even if the pitchers aren't the same, it gives you a general idea.

I've witnessed kids starting their swings too early to try and combat faster pitching than they are used to seeing, when they encounter it.
The result is they actually have to slow down their bat, mid-swing, to try time contact properly, because they have committed to the swing so early.

So, I always thought that max coil was reached at toe touch, launch position. The whole FBC thing. Although many seem to coil early such as the Sweeney clip and then have a small weight shift. So is that incorrect that max coil is at toe touch?

What you're seeing is being too early with their launch/release, and then trying to make timing adjustments. Once you have launched/released, you are committed to completing the swing. The "slow and early" process is about starting pre-launch movements earlier in order to be able to execute a good launch at the correct time. Timing adjustments should be happening pre-launch. If the player has a long/looping/dropping hand path, this may also contribute to challenges with faster pitching because of how early they need to commit. A short hand path and explosive launch allows the hitter more time to read the speed and location of the pitch prior to full commitment.

This is one of my favorite clips demonstrating the pre-launch process happening on every pitch, before knowing the location...https://noontimebaseball.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Cabrera_062313_PbP_stack.gif

Depends if you are considering max coil as single point in time or if it could be coil and hold, as noted you can't hold forever but it could be more than just an instant. As noted in a different thread I think I did it for Sosa he actually reaches back (I didn't watch hips just hands but I would assume hips as well) after toe touch. I would think correct sequence would be max coil is reached just prior to launch, so that begs the question when does launch begin usually as early as toe touch but maybe as late as heel plant...

'Many seem to coil early'. What do you mean by 'coil early' compared/comparing to what?

IMHO meaningless check points, toe touch and heel plant.
The 'check point' is the release of the stretch.
What good was starting at foot plant in the swing on the right.

Both swings sync to foot plant.

Good hitters don't coil and then hold coil.
