Our hitting instructor uses baseballs nearly exclusively. No complaints for me.

Does the hitting instructor throw front toss and try to put different spins on the ball and throw in an occasional change-up, to all plate locations? IMO, you should be repliicating the situations that are similar to what happens in a game,

The best hitting drill would be facing live pitching. Front toss with a softball with be #2 on my best hitting advice. Note sure where a baseball fits into this equation?

All I know is her swing, her approach, her mechanics and results have all improved dramatically.

Most of the lessons are front toss from behind a screen at about 15' or variations of that using baseballs in an indoor cage. He stops to talk to her about various points on hitting, approach, counts, and to correct form defects.

We've seen no issues with the composite bats from using baseballs.

I will say DD is 12U maybe things will change down the road.

I'm not saying one way is better than the other but to me it seems hit a ball is hitting a ball.

It wasn't me.

Not here.
JMHO but, why not just use softballs. Use what a hitter will be hitting in a game. Game bat and game balls. If my DD was taking lesson from a hitting instructor who was to lazy to get the bucket of softballs, I'd have a problem with that hitting instructor.

Back on the dirt...
I've been hitting baseballs, softballs, Softball's with no leather and occasionally a golf ball or two with my 3 year old cf5 doing self toss. I've had no bat issues. Also used a mako Tork, cf8 and cf9. All still In good shape. I love letting my DD hit baseballs on occasion because she can tell the boys they have it easy hitting it farther due to smaller ball.

I might not do it with a brand new $400 bat but I don't think it's as detrimental as some make it. Jmhoy

When it comes to my kid we use baseballs for probably 70 percent of front toss unless we are on an open field. It is by design, not for convenience or to save a few bucks per dozen. I buy the Wilson A1010S balls (5 dozen at a time with the 6 gallon bucket). These are a decent combination of quality and price point for back yard cage work. We work mostly as Sweet Lou described above. To say the least, it was a great decision to use baseballs the past few years. The way she is hitting right now in HS, twelve inch softballs must look like beach balls.

When the SCN1B was her gamer, she used the SCN1B to hit baseballs. Now she uses the SCN1B to hit baseballs haha.

When I was a kid, I recall hitting baseballs with an aluminum softball bat... and walking home, with a dented softball bat...

I would not allow DD to hit baseballs with her game bat. FWIW

I use baseball in practice a lot, smaller ball more difficult to track and hit, makes a 12 in softball look like a watermelon coming at you.

I never use game bats to hit baseballs, we use old bats, wood bats or cheep metal bats purchased at yard sales or used sports equipment places like Play It Again sports stores. We try and get the practice bat as close to length and weight as game bat.
