If the reports are true, it is definitely a very strange situation. The very first time he needed to use the microwave he should have realized the uncomfortable position he was going to be in. His proper course of action would have been to speak with the AD (or whomever would handle this) and ask for a microwave in another area where he could utilize it. The fact that someone else had to make that suggestion shows there was some type of issue to begin with. And then if he continued to enter even after the "excuse" was eliminated.... Again, this is assuming the reports are true.

The interview thing has always been silly to me. The truth of the matter is that today's society seems to love drama. They want to speak with the players/coaches as soon as possible after the games just so that they can try to catch them saying something they shouldn't say. Then talk radio can light them up the entire next week for saying it. Drives me nuts... When I watch sports or listen to sports radio, my preference is to actually listen to talk about SPORTS!! All of this other drama stuff is just nonsense to me. Honestly, it is painful for me to listen to ESPN radio any more because all they want to talk about is drama. It's like they have forgotten that sports is what their company was created for.

When UMKC responded recently to The Star’s request for comment on the sexual harassment case, officials emailed Thompson’s redacted Title IX report — and a second, unexpected document.

It was a summary of disciplinary action the athletic department had taken last spring against six softball players for their involvement in an alcohol-related incident. The document identifies three of those players involved as the ones who later complained about Bachkora.

Experts contacted by The Star say the release of that document violated the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA, which prohibits a college or university from sharing certain information about students, including sexual harassment complaints and disciplinary records.

And bringing up media access to professional sports team locker rooms is just plain silly. That has no relevance to these incidents.

Villains are vilified at every turn. It just so happens that many, if not most, of them are men. And this mostly comes from the fact that men are the ones usually in positions of power and most of these instances are men abusing their power because they can, or at least they believe they can.

Exactly. And the complaining about vilified men is because when your position of privilege starts to shift to a more equal distribution, no matter how unequal that still is, it can feel like you're being vilified or discriminated against. Women have been at a huge disadvantage when it comes to reporting sexual assault or misconduct for longer than I have been alive. Victims are so ripped apart during the process, that a false accusation is rare. I have no idea if this coach did something wrong or didn't, but if they gave him his own microwave and he still kept coming into the players' locker room, that says a lot to me. They even told him to send a female staff member if there was something he really needed in there, and he still kept going in. Maybe that didn't bother all the players, but it obviously bothered some of them. It would bother me, either as a player or the parent of one. They tried to address it internally. It did not work. What else should they do?

I am a firm believer in equal rights. When I am looking to hire or promote someone, my focus is on the best "person" for the job regardless of sex, race, or any other factor. I look strictly at education, experience, and other factors that are pertinent to the specific job.

That said, bad behavior is not limited to one sex, race, religion, or other specific groups. People that do stupid, repulsive, or even criminal things come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. If the accusations about this coach are proven to be true, hopefully more will be done than simply buying a new microwave. Likewise, if it can be proven that the accusations are false, hopefully others will be held accountable.

Story -- Several years ago there was a young woman working in a clerical role in our organization (not my department). She filed a sexual harassment claim against a person that worked with her. The "event" in question occurred when the two of them were alone in the office. When he was questioned about the incident, he claimed that she had been flirting with him for some time. On the day in question, she approached him and asked if he wanted to meet after their shift was over. He responded by saying he was happily married and not interested. She filed the claim the next day. At the time, no one knew which side to believe. In order to continue the investigation, HR decided to transfer her to a different department (my department...). She had less seniority than the accused, so that is how they determined whom to transfer. As the department head, I was informed of the situation and asked to not allow any male associate to be alone with her at any time. Within a couple of weeks, she quit and accepted a job at a local truck stop as a waitress. She was fired from that job within the next month as she was caught flirting with the patrons and had been warned several times.

My point is this. It is quite possible that the coach named in this thread was in the wrong. If that is the case, something should be done. But it is not unrealistic to think that someone would misreport or misrepresent something. All one needs to do is look at the current structure of politics in this country to see how that works...

Reporters in the locker room is probably a remnant from when newspaper reporters had to meet a deadline in order to get their stories in on time. With most media going electronic, and a 24-hour news cycle, it is probably no longer needed. As far as I'm concerned all reporters should be barred from the locker room, and a separate area should be set up to conduct interviews.

I’ve read all the info on this case I can find. Former and current players have stated most of these allegations are not true. The players are adamantly defending this coach and claim these accusations are coming from players who have left this team.

Since he is still there, let us hope what you say is true for the current and future players. That said, well intentioned or not, as a male I cannot imagine walking into
a female locker room for any reason.
