I have twin daughters playing. One has picked up the habit of flicking the ball. She asks me to watch her and tell her when she flicks. I cannot tell when she flicks and when she is throwing correctly.

My other daughter recently started pitching. I cannot tell when she turns her hip too early and her arm goes off to the side during her delivery. I can tell when she is properly keeping her hand down for her change up compared to her fastball, and when she properly drives her back leg forward, but I cannot diagnose much else in her mechanics.

Is this something that comes with time?

Use your phone to video them in practice. Replay it with the coach's eye app (free). It allows frame by frame playback. Do that for awhile and you'll learn to pick up things with the naked eye.

Unless it is something specifically with hand see if you can tell by something bigger.

Both the above you might be able to watch thier elbow or follow thru then trying to track thier hand.

I agree with Comocoach, there are several options for slow mo or frame by frame and that definitely helps. I have twins here also and they've actually gotten very good at analyzing each others mechanics whether it be pitching, catching, batting, etc.. Video definitely helps end the argument when they say "but I am doing that" and you can say well lt's take a look. ;-)

Thanks, I've have taken a video of them which has a slo-mo replay, but I haven't tried coach's eye app. I will check it out.

For my pitching daughter, I can see her follow through, and that she comes up with her hand then drops it back down when throwing a fastball. I just learned to watch that she goes knee to knee after the release. I cannot see where she is releasing the ball.

Same thing with my other daughter, I cannot see her hand release the ball when she is throwing. Which is what she is most concerned about, flicking on the release.

I don't know, my DD started pitching in end year 8U and is first year 12U now and I still stink at that. I can pick out mechanics issues in slow motion video but that's about it. I'm also almost always wrong about action calls in games. I wonder if some people have a good eye for this stuff and others (like me) do not.

As others have said, start with watching slo-mo video. Watch a ton of it. Not just of your DD, but also of players who are examples of the actions you want to model. With experience, you will start to be able to see issues at full speed. There is definitely a learning curve to it.
