From a couple of recent threads I had some questions that some others probably have better answers than I do:
Our org has been very successful in getting girls into what I would mostly consider good fit colleges. But I have never concentrated on what they do day-to-day while they were there, instead believing it to be similar to what I went through as a basketball player (weights/conditioning, practice, individual skills, film review, etc). We often get the coaches who say "We like the raw material, we can refine once she is on campus". I have been on various campuses and seen some well run practices... and some not so well run ones.
So my questions really are
- What DO they actually work on in college practices. How is the time they allowed for contact generally used?
- How do pure-pitchers practice (@riseball - what was Jake's experience at her two colleges?)
- How do they develop catcher skills?
- Are they working on skills development for infielders/outfielders and hitting? Or is mainly reps.
- Is there really 'development' time or is just the pure amount of time dedicated to the sport that develops players?
- How much depends on the coaches, the players, and the program? I know this clearly varies from program to program, but what have people's experiences been
I know it sounds corny, but it would be interesting to hear a run down of week's practice schedule breakdown from some of those who have already had a DD in college.
This is coming from recent threads where we are pages and pages deep in Florida' pitchers and catchers techniques. Florida has a very well respected pitching coach - yet they have not done a single thing to Barnhill's technique since she got there? So what exactly is she working with her on? Is it just because of the talent level?
Same when you think about how their current catcher receives compared to Munro. Does no one work with the current catchers to make them better? Are they just spending their time hitting and getting field reps?
