Thanks all for the input - just was I was looking for.

    Insider Bat

I did a search but didn't come up with any prior posts. My apology if this has been discussed before: does anyone have any comments about this item as a teaching tool? It certainly comes with some high level endorsements, but would like to hear from others in the trenches. Thank you.

    best mouth guard

I agree with vdubya - if you're talking about young pitchers, a facemask is the way to go. In addition to looking at the Gameface, I'm aware of masks from RipIt and Bangerz that are worthy competitors. Our girls switched to the Bangerz because the fit is more adjustable and they just seemed more...

    Frustrated!

CoachC, my take on that is to eliminate the ambiguity by making it clear that practice starts at the appointed time - i.e., cleats on, gear stowed, ready to roll at that time. If they're just arriving at that time, they are late. We warm up together beginning at the appointed time, and we wait...

Is this a good method for working swing mechanics?

Thanks Mark - I've learned so much from your posts in various places over the years - it feels good to be validated at some level :)

Is this a good method for working swing mechanics?

One of the gurus will step in here and comment, hopefully, but I'll offer my two cents FWIW. I'm not sure about the wrists flicking the ball off part - what does that accomplish? Nonetheless, I think your idea can useful, and you can build on that by going to different points of contact...

    Infielder's Face Guard

A couple of our pitchers have converted from the Gameface to the new Bangerz mask and are very happy with the change.

    Rule question

Yes, and question to CSHILT: practically speaking, there will rarely, if ever, be a dead-ball appeal of missing first-base on a play as described (play in the infield), because time out is not going to be given while the B-R is wandering around beyond first base. If, after missing the base, she...

    properly addressing rules with umpires

Looks to me that CSHILT is correct - the rule clearly contemplates that a batter-runner going to first on a base-on-balls be treated "the same as a batted ball." She can round it, stop, then must immediately go forward or back. Sounds like there is some local misunderstanding or misapplication...

Can a batter switch sides during an at-bat?

Per the ASA rule, I think the batter can do it any time prior to when the pitcher steps on the rubber to take her sign. Once the pitcher is on the rubber, the batter must remain in her box unless she requests and is granted timeout.

    Batting average?

Good info from Sluggers. I love to watch Lastrapes. I suggest forgetting about BA and looking at OPS - a better measure of offensive productivity (on base percentage plus slugging percentage).

    EP vs. DP Flex...

Kevin I'll take a stab. I believe the CR is attached to the position, not the player. If that is true, the same girl could be CR for the pitcher, whoever the pitcher may be at a given point in the game. The same girl cannot be CR for the pitcher and the catcher, and if the CR subsequently...

Should you have catcher's set up?

EJL, How about a few "decoy" pitches where the pitcher actually chooses another target - e.g., let the catcher set up on the outside, but (by prior agreement), pitcher throws to catcher's inside shoulder or knee, or umpire's mask (assuming he/she is set up in the slot appropriately), or...

    Helmet on or helmet off...

practice too... I agree - leave it on. With very few exceptions, I have my catchers wear their gear during most everything we do during IF workouts as well. It may seem like overkill at times, but the younger girls, in particular, need to learn to function with that stuff on. It completely...

    EP vs. DP Flex...

thanks.... good comments, and I agree that this is a great tool that is underused.

    EP vs. DP Flex...

SnoCatz.... Can you please point to the rule (ASA or NFHS) that says the DP can't enter the game on defense until after the first pitch? I can't find that, and don't think it's true, but would be happy if you can set me straight. I have from time to time put a good hitting pitcher #1 into the...

    slap hitters speed?

Thank you SBFamily - it is difficult to put all this into a narrative description. However, I am confused by what I perceive as conflicting treatment of the "toe touch" position. What I think I read is that you teach TT at the K position, with weight transfer at 50-50 at that time - but then I...

Cause/Fix of Righty hitting every pitch to right field

I agree with SnowCatz & SB. When we do these tee drills, we put a plate down (we make a bunch of these out of the heavy rubberish shelf liner materials - work great, and each player can roll it up and put it in their bat bag), place the tee accordingly, and, frequently, even move the popup net...
