Kemp high level pattern?
I've got Kemp in the Harper mold of out athletic-ing the game. Now, harper seems to have made some changes but the only clip I have from spring training is not a good angle...so I'm going to reserve judgement on that.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on Kemp...
Sometimes kids get really antsy with their feet and jump at the ball or lunge towards it. This may be a problem as you said your daughter has trouble waiting for the ball.
Try putting both her feet in a 5 gallon bucket and then doing the clock drill as stated above. Just make sure that if she...
I like to think about turning the barrel as getting the bat IN THE WAY of the ball instead of driving the knob/barrel AT the ball.
It's a core driven swing instead of a hands and arms driven move. Most coaching cues are hands dominated as that's what holds the bat and what people feel most...
I don't know if you're still looking, but you can get online instruction at Baseball Research and Online Instruction - Baseball Rebellion. Yes, this is my site, and no, I'm not intending to 'advertise' but no one has responded to you in 3 months...so I figured I'd throw my 2 cents in.
You can...
I agree with David Carter, you must make sure they understand the words first.
Hitting has it's own dialects for sure, so some girls will associate different words with different actions. Make sure you're speaking the same language before the first swing ever happens.
Once you're hitting...
@aberdeenlightning
I checked out your daughter's video, and as stated above, that drill really is detrimental to anyone's development. It's going to be almost impossible for her to turn with any type of violence or suddenness if her arms are that active in the swing.
Downward path of the...
Momentum article (Baseball) - YouTube
This link is the one i meant to post...sorry for the mistake. I was trying to show bautista with movement...that's all
(if that's not bautista in the link i botched it again...
rdbass,
I understood the test, I was asking you to do the mouse test on that clip. Looks an awful lot like the girl i posted. Again, that girl doesn't move that way anymore, that was initial movement/momentum introduction very early in her learning curve.
she's much calmer now, although i'm...
RedhotCoach,
I'm here to post. I post links to my stuff because I think it applies. When it does not, no links. I can't stand people who use forums like this to advertise...matter of fact I had a clown from a product I refuse to name steal email addresses from me once...caused a ton of...
I was just asking if the 'mouse test' worked with JOSE B. I will try to figure out what 'imbedding blocked' means with my tec guy tomorrow so I can fix that so you can show the clip. My bad on that.
I write about hitting, but I am no computer guy that's for sure.
I believe in athleticism in softball and baseball swings. Most of the hitting theory I see is rigid and slow. Mechanical and robotic. I want my hitters to be fluid and natural. To move with confidence and clarity.
My main background as a child is in basketball, the most athletic and fluid...
redhotcoach,
I'd love to hear your take on the swing instead of phone booths and judo throws...
In the Braun gif, look at the people behind him in the clip. His head begins at the top of the girl's head next to the guy with his hand on his face. Then it's at her chin at contact. thoughts...
Also, I really appreciate you guys liking her changes. She has worked very hard.
I'll update you on her progress, she made Varsity as a freshman...we'll see how she does.
Thanks again!
In lots of my research, Longoria, bautista, cano...all have movement in the head downward and forward in their pre swing move.
I do have a question: Why are baseball/softball coaches so hung up on head movement before the actual swing? Think about it: If NBA Basketball players can move like...
