    Blame game

I had a similar experience as Goobie. Last year during a JH game we were winning by 2 with 2 out bottom of the 7th when our left fielder miss played a ball with 2 runners on. It rolled to the outfield corner and the we lost the game. The girl was devastated. After the game, I tried to...

Poll on the size of SB try-outs in HS

We had 21 girls show up last night for the first day of tryouts. Small numbers I know for a 3A school. Will probably only make cuts from V to JV. Reserve players on V will play JV. We're going to be very young in 2 years. 14 out of our 21 are juniors and seniors. Fortunately we have a very...

    Difficult decisions

IMO, you need to ask yourself why your girls are playing TB. Are they playing to win hardware? Or, are they playing to develop their skills. At 12U I thinks it more important to develop skills vs winning (this coming from someone that hates losing). Also, will your DD pitch as much on the 14U...

    Looking for a Hitting Coach

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a hitting coach in the Anderson, SC area. My niece is begining her journey and her parents are unsure of where to go. Any suggestions would be apprecitated. Thanks, Diamond Junkie

    Relocating to Pittsburgh

Welcome to Pa Carly. Pittsburgh is a great place to live. Although its first and foremost a football town there are number quality softball programs in the region. Especially if you travel 1 hour southeast to Greensburg which is home to one of the top youth softball programs in the state...

    How many is too many?

One advantage I like about having 12 on the roster is being able to rest my pitchers and catchers on Saturdays. Especially when its 90+ degrees out. We carry 3 pitchers and 2 catchers. I can give each pitcher one game rest on Saturday and have them all strong for Sunday. My #1 catcher...

    How many is too many?

My DD's 14U team is budgeted on a 12 person roster so thats what we carry. It's good number to work with imo because of the flexability it gives you any given weekend due to injuries, absences, who's playing well, etc.. My older DD's gold team carries 11.

    Showcase - Playing Time Question

Showcase teams get field and scheduling preference not so much on their win loss record but their record of placing girls into college programs. The more girls they can get into college, the better for the program. So most coaches will try to play all of girls unless a CC is there specifically...

    Switch Hitter ?

Personally I think it has alot to do with the pitching. In baseball players switch sides to combat the ball breaking away from them. In fastpitch, pitchers can throw the curve and screwball to break toward each side of the plate. IMO it takes away the advantage a hitter would have by...

    Any comments?

After reading this thread for a few days now I, for some reason, feel the need to add my two cents worth. Reading all of the different comments of this girl's swing pretty much sums up what I feel is the number one problem in the game today. Everyone wants to change someone to do it "this...

    showcase strategy - pet peeve

Attitude and effort will trump a great day statiscally. Almost all players have a great attitude when things are going well. But, its the attitude of those when things aren't going well that separates them from the rest. Was at a showcase last fall and DD's team was facing a D1 recruit...

#1 aspect of hitting not being taught

I'm a huge fan of his. Was able to attend a clinic of his and I was blown away by his approach. He breaks every aspect of the swing down to such simple terms for the students to understand. And he's the first one I've ever seen put so much emphasis on vision and timing. Wish I was smart...

#1 aspect of hitting not being taught

Vision and timing. It's what separates a number 3 hitter from a number 8 hitter. They both can have fantastic swings, but swinging isn't hitting.

    Stuck in the outfield

ms244 I would really encourage your dd to embrace the OF if she continues to pitch. On my teams, and many others that we face, the pitchers play either 1B or OF when not in the circle. My infielders work just as hard on their drills, timing, and chemistry with each other as the pitchers do on...

To charge or not to charge? That is the question.

Anytime a player can close the distance to the ball the better chance she has at making an out. In baseball, with 90' bases, infielders can sit back, recieve the ball and fire across the infield. Fastpitch is a whole different animal. Anyone that has witnessed 2.6 sec to 2.7 sec home to first...

    first time coaching

Eddie you must remember, as others have already said, its not about you. As coaches we are there for the players, not the other way around. We all have egos to different degrees. Its just natural. But, the egos have to be left aside once you are coaching. I'll be the first one to admit...

    looking for bats advice needed

Don't waste your time on the synge. No one that has used them likes them. Miken MV-3 is a weapon. Daughter used them over 2 seasons. Problem with the MV-3 is durability. She broke 3 of them over 2 seasons of 12U. Miken coverd the first 2 under warranty and were very good to deal with...

What age should players start specialising

At least my area in NEPA we have a problem with coaches specializing players at a young age in the name of winning. Many of our area youth coaches slot a player into a certain position and thats all they play. At a young age I think its extremely important for all players to learn as many...
