Missed this: Monica Abbott sets new speed record (77mph)

Ha, stretch her out...get her to be about 6'3" with cleats on. Time for protein shakes.

Heck yeah, she will get there soon enough!!!

Missed this: Monica Abbott sets new speed record (77mph)

All I have to say is that I saw Abbott in person at the stadium (the Bandits play at the Ballpark at Rosemont, and believe it or not, that's my team's home field too! Gotta throw out a Big Thanks to Mayor Brad Stephens of Rosemont for making that happen), and I knew she was big, but WOW! I...

    Jordan Taylor

Hey, let's push the rubber back another 3-5 feet and let the kids do whatever they want for their delivery! Think of all the money we will save by not having to employ base umps that have to constantly justify their worth by calling crow-hops, leaps, etc.

Struggling with Change Up with I/R Mechanics

I really like the Circle Change due to its natural delivery, but for an 11 year old that one is going to be really tough for her hands to handle yet. Personally, I'd keep the C or circle, spread the fingers a little bit more and push it deeper into the hand. The flip/flick would probably be a...

    "Run her over!"

I agree with this post and the two previous. I even coach my kids down in foul, WAY BACK in FAIR at 3rd base, trying to clip the 3rd baseman for contact when coming back to bag...takes away catcher's throwing lane and forces dead-in-the-sand 3rd basemen to move from barring the bag. Never...

    "Run her over!"

Very true, I completely agree with this assessment.

    Increase bat spped?

Yeah, that Bat Jack is pretty cool. Good luck to both you and your DD on increasing her bat speed. All your effort, especially at this age, will pay out huge dividends in the future (and she will thank you for it).

    Increase bat spped?

Set up a swing progression using the overload principle while standing in a pool. Use the H2O resistance to maximize muscle fibers reaction time. Young kids enjoy doing this even more than the college kids do.

    Making The Best of Circumstances

Your C had great recovery and a super solid throw down to 3rd. Does she usually kick her feet straight back when blocking in the dirt? If not, she should. This will create a little space and allow her to use her chest protector to absorb the ball in the dirt. I always tell my catchers there...

    "Run her over!"

Yes, that's bush league those comments came out of that coach's mouth...especially at this age. But let me warn you, it doesn't get any easier or safer for that matter. When things get "chippy," players will get their licks in legally or illegally.

    Pitching Parents

Yeah, that's tough when it comes to pitching limits...that's something I don't have to deal with. I agree with you that every pitcher should be ready to pitch all the time, but I personally think it's important to get these older girls on a schedule. My last pitcher (threw 90% of our spring...

    Pitching Parents

Screwball is totally right. The mental aspects of pitching are so demanding that starting pitchers for both baseball and softball need time to mentally and emotionally prepare for games, even when they are young (might be even more important the younger they are). And the stress of "not...

    Model Fielding ...

BLB gave me the "heads up" about this clip. I cannot wait to use it for my team. We teach both the crow hop and the pro step, but I prefer the pro step because it's faster. I've run times on my CF before (and I know each kid is different, so of cource I let the kid decide which one is the...

    Ducks on the pond

Look at all the rail birds chirping down the 3rd base fence line

Hawk Harrelson: 2-0 count, he's got the cat-bird seat.

Duck Snort or Texas Leaguer, which one is your FAV?

    parent to coach question

If you were chopping down a tree, you would use an axe that you would know would get the job down as efficiently as possible...an axe that feels comfortable to use. Same with the bat. Let your daughter decide which one feels better for her, which one she feels more confident with. Personally...

    Pitching Parents

This is a smart plan; I couple your strategy with statistics because numbers don't lie. In addition, I always post "the numbers" with coaching recaps for players and parents to see post games/tournaments. I think it's always better to be proactive and discuss these things with players and...
