I had a ump last year come to dugout and tell me he was going to start calling illigal pitches on my pitcher. I ask for what. His response was, "she's not taking the sign from the rubber". My first question was, How can tell unless your standing in front of my catcher. He said, "I just know that...
I do both... coach HS and TB. Here in NC most HS conferences are weak after the top 3 teams. However the top 3 are very good. They would give most, if not all, travel teams a very good game. I coach none of the HS girls in travel ball and most are on some of the top teams in north Carolina. We...
Here's my thoughts on this...
While playing LL,rec., or whatever, I think they should learn and play by whatever rules they will be playing in middle school, high school, and college. There may be a few girls that end up being career "rec." players, but most, I would think, want to make their...
After reading another thread and seeing the Pony Nationals are here in NC I was wondering why "we" , North Carolinians, don't hear more about it. Is this a league type thing or is it travel ball based? It may be more popular in the eastern part of the state, I don't know. But here in the western...
Depends on the situation...If she has played 3-4 straight games and is the only catcher, then yes, she may need a runner. But since you said she's not the slowest on the team, if she's fresh, let her run. She needs to perfect her base running skills just like she does with catching. Sooner or...
We moved our 12/u team to 14/u this past fall. We do have one more year at 12/u but decided it would be best to go to 14/u and 43'. We're not going to play any at 40'.......you need to do what's best for your team.
There is already one IFA in NC. International Fastpitch Association, along with ASA,NSA, AAU, and a few others, this could get very confusing....Good luck.
What do you coach, IE: travel ball, high school, rec ball, ect... and what age group and how long. Kind of an introduction of sorts.
Myself.....Carolina Cardinals travel ball, Davie High school.
Here is a link to our org. web site with a little history on how things got started.
Carolina...
I always call pitches to the weakness of the batter, in high school ball anyway. I also talk to my pitcher and catcher so they understand why I called those pitches. While I'm calling pitches, I have the other pitchers beside me so I can explain to them why I called that pitch. All the while...
It all depends on the kid. Example : Both of my daughters are 5' 2" and weigh (125lb's) about the same the younger ( just turned 12) uses a CF4 31/21 and swings it well. My oldest (will soon be 17) can't swing a bat at all. I also coach High school and can tell you most of the girls would have...
Anytime we run I run with them. When I tell them we're going to run a mile the first thing I hear is come on ole man lets go.....you got to love high school girls. For discipline, we run hills.
Very good post! The only thing I can add is:
If they play other high school sports go and support them.
During the summer I always try to go watch them play with their travel teams.
Keep the parents off the practice field.....we have closed practices
The biggest thing is make it fun!! If you ask...
