Coaches: how would you react if a player asked you to back off a little bit? Respectfully of course.

This would be a great time for a learning lesson as a young adult.

Often times our biggest fears are what we think could happen if we speak up. Encourage her to have a conversation with him at the appropriate time so he will be able to understands EVERYTHING that is going on with her hitting.

The goal is to have a plan for her, him, and the batting coach.

No I am dead serious. I did not keep the book. I actually don’t even know who did. I think it was one of the asst coaches. They put the stats out there. Now in the Fall she only had 15 plate appearances. Not many games. But she had the same kind of performance in HS and prior TB seasons. I don’t know her actual stats from any of those seasons because nobody made them public. I don’t have any explanation other than he really believes his way is the best way.

99.9% of people don't know how to "fix" a swing. Some of the best coaches in the world don't know. Why can high level hitting coaches charge basically whatever they want? Cause they know what they are doing.
I have coached for a long time and have a very good understanding of swing mechanics, but I always tell parents to let me know if they are working with a hitting coach, if they are what are key things that the coach is working on. That way I don't fight what they are trying to accomplish, I use the same key words that their hitting coach is using to reinforce that coaches teaching

GoRight- this is the key part. On our team I ask the same thing. If they have a hitting coach they are working with then we don't mess with them...and work to reinforce what their coach is teaching (even if we disagree). Fortunately for us 11 of my players see the same hitting instructor so we only have 1 that is working with someone else.

I'd suggest your DD approach the coach, let him know she's working with X hitting coach to improve her swing/mechanics. Even go so far as inviting coach to Hitting instructor lesson so they can get on the same page.

I know when our season started last year, our HC at the parent meeting asked that we provide the contact information for any of our DD's hitting coaches so that he could contact them and make sure no one was stepping on anyone else's toes and to keep an open dialogue.

Amen to this (except I don't know much about the swing).

Our girls all have professional hitting coaches and we happily defer to them. For many reasons, mainly that I'm unqualified, I never try to change a girl's swing.

Rare is the parent that looks at the results (statistics) and makes a change (new hitting coach).

There is always someone to blame (it usually starts with the coach).

A lot coaches seem to spend an incredible amount of time coaching any hint of natural athleticism out of a swing and trying to fix what ain't broke.

Had a player at 18 for a couple of years. Had the worst looking swing in the world, but each year hit .450 or so with about 6 HR's. Went to a 4 year college, coach changed her swing. She came back to finish her 18U TB with us. Had a great looking swing, hit .125 with 0 HR last Summer. She got cut from the College team this year.... yup does happen
