Yep sounds about right. I've seen some parents who even started their own team after not agreeing with me where their daughter should be playing( and yes no reason to even be on the infield at all) Gotta love daddy ball!

I think a big problem is the loyalty. Parents will also go somewhere else to tryout and not be up front, once a coach depends on that player and she doesn't show it puts them in a bind.
A buddy of mine said it best, the worst 2 girls on your team will always leaves because they (parents) think...
We normally have parents fill out information on the girls.
We also give out expectations of the team, expectations for the parents and players. Cost for uniforms, monthly fees, buy in etc.
Throwing, around the horn, etc
As for the actual tryout, we break them up, infield work, grounders...
What's funny is I read most of these comments, not just this page, but this forum and notice how most of the posters have daughter's that are 12U-18U, not many 10U girls.
I can define my daughter in 2 words; No Fear. She started 10U this year as an 8 year old, wants to pitch and loves to...
I like this, it's a marathon not a sprint. I tell my girls, I don't care if your 10U all-stars, 12U all-stars, etc, I care that you make it to high school and college.
I believe they calculated it to a .0004% accuracy rate. I played baseball for over 18 years through and fortunately haven't been hit with a fastball while pitching. I don't understand why they don't wear they catchers helmets or coaches helmet. I played ball with a guy that wore one in 1998.
Be up front and honest, tell the parents what the plans are, practices, fundraising and remember depending on the age, let the kids be kids. You don't have to play every weekend, plan ahead. Many parents are trophy hunters and will jump from team to team. Remember it is a marathon not a sprint.
This might have been written, but we do a game situation, 3 groups of 4, minus a pitcher (coach) catcher. Group 1 bats, 2 & 3 in the field. Play game situations, slow down and stop and walk through different things that occur during the play. Fielding team gets 3 outs they switch.
