Kind of interesting story in the Chattanooga Times, the three largest money making sporting events in Chattanooga, TN for 2011:

1. Head of the Hooch rowing event $4.8 million
2. ASA 16-Under Girls Fast-Pitch $3 million
3. NSA Class “A” Fast-Pitch World Series $2.48 million
4. Athletic Championship Cheerleading Championship $2.42 million
5. SoCon basketball tournament $1.30 million.

Oh come on...the "Head of the Hooch" is big time sports. There was a watermelon seed spitting contest that had 6 million of economic impact, but it didn't count because they bought 5 million worth of watermelons.

Probably made that in just gate fee's. I know ASA in west TN charges $10 a pop, or $20 for a weekend pass. ( which makes no sense to me lol )
Gate and concessions are important, but the real money is taken in by hotels and restaurants in the local area of a big event.
