Exactly! 65 at 14U is really fast. We played a lot of top competition over the fall, and we didn't see one girl throwing 65 until we saw Heavener, and that was at 16U National.
2026 on DD’s team sits between 63-65 on a pocket radar. She gets it to 68 in bullpens but doesn’t spin it as well at that speed. A 2027 (Abby Atkinson) they faced a few weeks ago from Texas Glory is a bit faster on a pocket radar. She isn’t a big kid either..impressive arm talent.

There are maybe 10-20 14u teams in the country that could score 8 runs against these kids if they were not locating it and this would have to probably include walking a few kids (DD’s team isn’t one of them 😂)

It's a hypothetical but if a kid throws 65 at 14U it would be unlikely that she has no speed and other pitches. It happens though and I'd love to face that team late on Sunday. And yes, by definition if she can't spot it she's walking a few and then the big bats are bringing those in.

It’s also hypothetical until your team actually faces a kid sitting at 65..has that happened?

63 yes. 65 no. We walked and then hammered her when she wasn't mixing.
Like I said, there are some teams out there that are loaded with really good hitters 1-9 that would have a chance..you will see those teams playing in Power Pool on Sunday in CO..maybe your team is one of them 😉. An average or even slightly above average 14u hitter is going to have a hard time with 65 even it is right down broadway so if your lineup has 4 or 5 of those good luck..

I'm at a high school playoff game with my other kid. Opposing pitcher throws high 40s/low 50s but has a killer and well located screw and curve with a fair rise at that speed. Our team is mostly 300 hitters and we are scoreless through 4. Spin and spots matter more than speed alone.

A 65 MPH pitching softball is the equivalent of a 94 MPH pitch in baseball, from a reaction time standpoint. I don't know many 13-14 year-old boys who can hit a pitch at 94 MPH, even if it's straight. Can it be done? I guess by the best of the best, but that's extremely rare.Screenshot_20230520_165754_Brave.jpg
