After coaching for many years and doing exit velo off of tees I would say anyone who is 60mph + can hit dingers. My 14yo dd has hit 5 bombs and her exit velo is 64mph on a tee. I’ve had girls 60-62 mph hit multiple bombs. In BP the ones that are 68+ hit them consistently and the ones closer to 60 hit them way less obviously

Because obviously contact and trajectory of the ball off the bat is the big consideration to hitting dingers, would like to see more detail about the Pitch trajectory and the spin on the pitch affecting exit velocities.

Like rise vs. drop ball vs. curve. And trajectory of the ball off the bat of each.
How spin may effect the hit trajectory and distance.

Could not get link to apply,
but heres this

does not contribute much (compared to bat speed) but does contribute..
Good morning 🙂 Mr. Math!
Got #'s?????

Hitting being influenced by the pitch trajectory + spin rate and ability of batter to make adjustment or not. Wonder what the variance is on the Dilemma for the batter to continue with correct contact and bat path trajectory pending pitch and location?

* which pitch/spin is hit most for a home run?
* which pitch/spin is least hit for a home run?

This is one of the reasons why I prefer certain hitting mechanics over others because are able to make easier adjustments in line with better contact.

The Alan Nathan article you posted would have been the one I would have quoted with regards to the effect of pitch spin on after contact ball trajectory. I will have to go back and read the paper to make further comment.

Pitch speed does not contribute to higher ev. Urban legend.
I have to admit, that seems a bit counterintuitive in respect of the whole energy in, energy out concept. I would have thought that higher pitch speed would lead to more bat compression up to the limit of that attribute (i.e. bat probably doesn’t compress more for a 70 mph than a 75 mph pitch, but will compress more than a ball pitched at 45 mph).

My own experience is that during BP, I’m always able to hit the ball farther off of the pitching machine, than off of a tee, which I’ve always attributed to more bat compression and energy transfer associated with incoming ball speed. I’m always open to other views/data that shows the opposite though.
