One thing I like in those situations (and I don't even know if it is legal.. :ROFLMAO: ) is for the 3B coach to get way down the line on those so they can put on a late stop sign if they need to. Cannot see where he/she is there..

probably the hardest judgment call in softball as a coach is whether to send the runner from 3rd. hard to calculate everything in an instant.

can’t forget 2 outs and down 2 runs in your algorithm.
When opportunity arises, rise to it!
One more run is one more run closer to closing the gap.

When the ball is in play the opportunity is closer!

yeah, but this is a scenario you should be running in your head pre-play.......in fact, i'm telling my runner ahead of time something to the effect of "gap shot we're scoring, everything else in the OF you're getting here hard and looking to me"

sure, but that doesn’t help the calculation of what actually happens in the moment. of course your runner should be looking at the coach.

Regardless of that specific call ... that's a state final crew?

*shrug* In my state; being ex-military (preferably Vietnam apparently) and/or current level of sucking up to college assignors seems to be the main criteria on what games/selection each umpire and umpiring room received.

Add in our HS finals are in mid-late May so in the meat of the college softball season so most of those umpires are not available either.
I would say well over half of the best umpires in the state don't even bother to indicate they have interest in doing states most years when asked.

I did a couple of state finals and have no plans or interest in doing it again. Which is a shame.

i think we already established that this coach won state last year and is in the semifinals this year. maybe the coach is competent.
