During a Legion game, a teammate managed to bunt and have it bounce back off of the ground and knock a tooth out. He said it hit the plate, and came back, but I still have no idea how he did it.

Jenna Lilley(UO) got hit by a pitch in the face and broke her nose along with some chipped teeth back in 2016.

How many defensive players are getting injured by these metal cages on the batters helmets? Eric F. Had posted a video of his DD taking a pretty good shot from a baserunners mask.

Almost seems less safe having face masks to me...

One of dd’s team mates bled all over home plate at LSU several years ago.

Taking a full swing. Think it was her nose.

Actually...when bunting was a huge part of softball, this happened more than a few times.

If they wore a cage thru TB and HS I am pretty sure they could / should wear the cage in college. The vision excuse is kinda ignorant.

Do fielders think about this though? Theyre comfortable fielding the ball without a mask but probly dont think about the 180 lb freight train sliding into second with a metal cage strapped to their head.

I mean you get a throw to the 1b side and try to put a tag on and catch a metal cage to the face thats a pretty big deal.

While I personally can't imagine not wearing a mask if I was batting (and they are not "metal cages"...smh), in college they have a choice, at least at the D1 level, so it's theirs to make. I remember watching the WCWS a number of years ago and seeing a player from Baylor foul off a ball straight up into face, knocking her out of the tournament.

That said, I call BS on the excuse that the mask impacts their vision. They've worn a mask at every level leading up to college and clearly it couldn't have impacted them too much, seeing as they've made it to the top collegiate level. And as a former hockey player who had to wear a mask, I can also vouch for the fact the mask essentially "disappears" from view, thanks to the way the brain works.
