just hoping we get playoffs......to be honest, this year and next are legit state title teams for us at the Class C level......very few rosters have the depth we have, and we have two decent pitchers this year......we won 14 games and made it to regional semis with a converted SS throwing for us two years ago ;)

basketball is playing a regional schedule that saw us playing several class A & B teams.....and they are getting regional playoffs at the class C/D level......so we should get at least that, but we want more ;)

i've been working with some of our varsity girls since they were 6, i coached them all at the MS level, so I've been working on this build for many years.......so hoping they get to see it through

also get two see DD1 & DD2 play together for the first time in a long time....they got one year of MS and one year of 10u travel together, so that will be fun

i am also cleared to volunteer with the HS team after being reported for coaching my travel team last summer while the MPA had school ball in lockdown; i had 3 of my varsity girls with me.......but i had resigned my MS coaching position in the fall before lockdown, and there was no HS season for me to volunteer for, so it was essentially just sour grapes/jealousy that prompted that

DD is a frosh, and last year's HS coach unexpectedly moved out of state shortly after fall semester began. One of the PE teachers who played college ball stepped up to run the conditioning pods but her DD is a Frosh pitcher so there are potential optics issues there so she removed herself from the potential coaching pool and has been assisting the AD with the search. As the season gets closer, the search has resulted an AC hire who has been unimpressive so far but is an AC so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. PE teacher/Coach/Mom is still running the show and hoping they can find a qualified coach before the season starts, but pickings are thin so she might become the HC by default. A lot of the girls are very fond of her, and many have played for her at the rec level previously. Again, the only concern with her as HC is the optics of her DD potentially getting preferential treatment, otherwise she is the logical pick, and would probably be the best option not only for this season but into the future as well. Considering we may or may not have a season, there are plenty of more important things to worry about.

Just starting to hear some HS coaches in So Cal demanding players leave their TB team immediately. Others coaches set a date like march 15th and yet others said do whatever you want. Lot of confusion in California. Thank you CIF for all your great decision making. High Schools don't even know if they are going to have a season. And if they do, how long and how many games. Everything up in the air. TB coaches are pulling their hair out. Some smart coaches are already planning joining teams together so the players that either opt out of HS ball or are not yet HS age will continue to play TB. What a mess.
Does TB there run through HS season? Around here, TB basically shuts down during HS season. With the girls practicing 5 days a week and playing games, there really is no need for TB ball.

No drama that I can think of. Supposed to start March 1st. Hoping for the current weather pattern to change so games in mid-March can happen!!

Yeah the So Cal HS season is a giant mess right now. My daughters team has a schedule set but that by no means guarantees they will play.

It’s crazy how different things can be in HS ball. Some schools have tryouts for Frosh//Soph, JV, and Varsity and make all kinds of cuts. Then you have my daughters school with only a Varsity team and struggling to field a competitive team. Made worse because of the overlapping sports season (basketball and softball) taking up the best athletes.

In normal years, CA has a "dark" period where it in not permitted to play HS and TB at the same time.

Since CA is still in lockdown with some counties closer than others to playing, HS softball is far from certain. The rule makers said this year you're allowed to play both HS and TB concurrently to be fair to the kids where HS will not happen, so there will be some overlap/confusion on which one kids play.

DD will play both, but yes, it will be a 7 day a week burn the candle at both ends type deal... Actually, it already is.

Any decent prep softball program in So Cal has a travel ball coach coaching the Varsity team anyway. If your school is demanding the kids quit travel ball, that's kind of a red flag.

We're in a weird dilemma - middle school tryouts.

DD is 7th grader. Rumor has it that if you don't try out as a 7th grader the coach has a long memory and will use it against you as an 8th grader (don't ask me why, sounds dumb). But 7th graders making the team is rare (like one or two a year). And that they sit, no matter how good.

So, dilemma is...try out, and risk making it (and there's a maybe 30/70 make it / not make it chance in my estimate). Or not try out, and risk the "punishment" next year. (If she did make it this year, it would break her softball wise - no way could handle TB and school ball schedules). Whereas next year, she'd be fine as most of her TB team will be in HS and they won't start up until after school ball is over.

Rumors start with disgruntled parents. I wouldn’t put any stock in them. If she wants to play school ball, let her and join her travel team when school ball is done. If she wants to do travel instead, do that.

for the vast majority, school ball is what it is. good competition, play for your school, with friends, etc. The problems that people get affected by are the few HS coaches that are terrible, incompetent, idiots only in it for the paycheck. The ones that issue rules and directives and then said rules are not applied to all equally. That's when parents get upset and start screaming.

AND some of this is all luck of the draw. You have your DD, say middle of the road skill wise. She could be at an absolute train wreck of a school program and she's the best player they have ever seen. 4 year varsity starter, all conference rep, etc. Take that same player on a ultra competitive, huge HS right down the road that has 75+ girls trying out and she struggles to make JV. Did her skills magically change?
I've witnessed both ends of this spectrum just in the HS conferences here in Cincinnati area.

Where people really get fired up, is take that same middle of the road player, from that terrible high school team...she tries out for a more competitive travel team or 'A' level if you will. and can't make any squads and the parents can't understand why? 'She was a varsity starting pitcher as a freshman last year, why doesn't the coach of the Platinum, Elite tungsten Hittin Kittens, want my DD?" Cause she's really not A level and has benefited by playing on a sub par HS team. Then they start their own team.
This exact reasoning is why most college coaches could really care less about the majority of HS stats. (there are exceptions to this. IE nobody is state player of the year, that can't really play).

I'll be glad to watch any HS games in the coming months. I'll sit way out in outfield, where my mumblings can't be over heard, cheer on all players, and be glad when travel ball starts.

Our high school moved Fall sports to short Spring season and delayed the start of Spring sports to March 28. Thankfully the conference my DD is going into for college is playing this Spring. I believe conference games only. That makes me feel good for the Fall and next Spring, hopefully.
