Think it threw a little further,
:)(sharing this thought process)

Is there any reason the rest of the defense should kick back just cuz theres no one on base?

Is there any reason the pitcher should have a different looking target to throw to?

How about the umpire?
Would it be advantageous to have consistancy framing?

I'm not saying that they're kicked back without runners on base. If anything all your doing is convincing me to get into a secondary position on every pitch. Maybe our catchers are too low in their stance in general and that is something we can work on.

It should also be noted difference in some mechanics on knees are squishy with weight back, glove in between knees. Limiting athletic ability.

Prefer knees dropping straight down
(not back)
Tushie stays up.
Keeping an athletic posture more upright , shoulders forward.
( like athletic posture on knees)
Yes chest at slight angle forward.

Anytime we squish our muscles collapsing into a little ball takes extra time to then get muscles engaged, to move again.
aka- downtime

Prefer Thought process of
Be athletic ~ Stay athletic!

We do teach knees straight down
Tush needs to stay more upright on both catchers
They are both athletic, but posture needs to be addressed
Chest is fine on both.

Since I'm on a roll, where do you prefer the bare hand. Do you prefer behind the mitt or behind the leg?

This is different from what many coaches teach and hard to change if catcher has been doing it the other way but once she gets it she will never do the donkey kick again.

My DD has gone to a few clinics with a guy that does pretty much what you're saying. His big thing is the glove leads the way. So on a ball in the dirt the hands go down first, then the knees follow. But he does not like the donkey kick either.

Possibly a little clarification?
Your secondary being a more ready stance?!

Yes that would be appropriate.

As for the comment of kicked back ...was just mentioning it as a description meaning a less intense mechanics, or less readiness from less set up.
Thats all.

Bent throwing arm, hand hidden behind side/knee shinguard area..
(not dangling noodle to the side)
Ready the muscles!

Woohoo!! I got one right!!

Our one catcher has a big issue with trying to use her bare hand to catch the ball. Think the crocodile chomp 'use two hands' that you see in 8u.
