You coaches in HS or college...what do you do with your main and sometimes only pitcher on days after games where she throws 100-120 pitches and you play 2 days later....rest, easy throwing, yoga, etc? Suggestions please...thanks

Great Question.

We talk about the game. Recap successes and failures. We do a "light day" which is more cardio/core. If we throw, we work on spins for pitches we missed the most. No more than 25-30.

Rest mostly, basic cardio and stretching if their is a practice just hit or fielding her secondary position if she has one. Might work on one or two things either from the previous game or if you have scouting report on next team go over that, if we throw light day warm up then maybe 20-30 pitches focusing on something specific we want to work on...as long as I know she can get a good warmup before the game on next game day not really worried about throwing during that off day.

Run some. "The current practice utilized for conditioning is for pitchers is to go for a long run the day after a game to “flush” the arm of lactic acid, or minimize muscle soreness to recover faster for the next game."

I'm in the midst of reading "Recovery for Baseball" by Dr. Stephen Osterer of the Baseball Development Group. Interesting read. E-book download.

Especially like the section on adaptation amplifiers/dampeners.

Let’s be honest. In most cases the day after they pitch in a game, they are warming up for today’s game.

Unfortunately, that's often the case.

I'm really hoping that during this down time, the tourney formats, length of seasons, long term health, etc. can be assessed honestly.

Too much "that's how we've always done it" from my perspective.
