ASA Nationals pick ups

Quick question on pick ups for ASA nationals. I have read some places a pick up must be from the same association/state but the ASA pick up player form doesn't state this in the rules. Does anyone know if a girls can pick up with an out of state team?

I think it's okay to be from another state. Besides, what if you live in a state that doesn't have a team going to nationals but you want to go and can get picked up by another team? If you weren't allowed to do that it would rule out a lot of players.

As far as I know the big no-nos are picking up a registered A player for a B team, or picking up a player whose team is playing in ASA nationals and hasn't released her.

You state may have their own rules for picking up for in-state tournaments. For ASA or now USA Nationals, or for the JO Cup, players can pick up for out of state teams.

A lot of teams, esp. near borders, have players from more than one state anyway.

That restriction was removed in 2016:

Article 303 A 01 01. Pick-up Players General Rule. The team adding pick-up players must select roster members from ASA registered teams.
Comments: Removes restrictions on where a pick-up player can come from.

They added an exception this year so JO teams can register players that didn't play earlier in the season:

Article 303 Pick-Up Players
A. General Rule. All teams are permitted to pick-up three players as follows:

01. The team adding pick-up players must select eligible roster members from USA Softball registered teams.

02. Pick-up players must have played for an USA Softball-registered team during the current season.

EXCEPTION: Senior Slow Pitch and Junior Olympic Fast Pitch

03. ( JO ONLY ) Pick-up players must be registered during the current season. Players must be registered seven ( 7 ) days prior to the start of a National Championship Final.
